A Homeschoolers View on Sports

You came here because you want to know what I, a 13-year-old homeschooler, think about sports. Let’s talk about it.

A Homeschooler’s View On Sports:

First off, get that Idea that homeschoolers are unathletic nerds out of your head, most of us aren’t. Personally, I enjoy sports, at least most of them. I am not a huge fan of basketball, soccer, or baseball, so virtually America’s 3 most well-known sports. Football’s fun to watch, I don’t play it though (unless you count Upward flag football). While I am on the subject though, Upward is a great Christian based sports association, which means a super friendly and “just for fun” environment. So if you are looking for a laid-back sport to put your kid in, Upward is GREAT!

Although I don’t care about soccer anymore, I did play it for six years or something. It was a fun sport to play back then, I just grew out of it I guess. I did a couple different soccer programs, including Veta, Upward, and a local one that I can’t remember the name of.

After soccer, I started wrestling, which was also a fun sport. I wrestled for around 3 years, year round if I remember correctly. I went to A LOT of tournaments so now I have all these first-place medals taking up space. I never really got bored of wrestling, but I moved on to another year-round sport.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. For those of you who haven’t heard of Jiu-Jitsu, it is a grappling sport that is mostly done on the ground. Your goal is to “tap out” or submit your opponent before time runs out. Tapping is basically saying “Okay you got me, I don’t want my arm broken so you win”. It’s basically a full body game of mercy. Of course, there are rules and point systems, but that’s the gist of it.

As of today, I am still doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as my main sport. I currently practice five days a week and compete in about one tournament each month.

Heres another thing about homeschoolers, they generally have a lot of extra time since they don’t spend 8 hours a day in a classroom. Extra time = More time to practice. More time to practice = Better athlete. In other words, homeschoolers are better.

So that concludes my homeschooled opinion on sports. To shorten it all up, I think they are fun and have done A LOT of them, even more than I wrote about in this post. Thank you for reading this and make sure to check out the rest of my blogs to see more about me and my opinion on stuff.
